Michael Steinback
Michael Steinback, a founding member of Oakland Bay Area CARES, has been with Detroit CARES since 2013 serving as executive director, program administrator, mentor, trainer, and coach. He has also been active internationally, including deliberative dialogue and wellness trainings around the US and in Kenya, while serving on youth and mental health boards.
Michael is also the Director of Enterprise Risk Management for the historic Julian C. Madison Building in downtown Detroit. His business career includes risk management, small business consulting, commercial bank lending and community development.
LaTasha Washington
LaTasha Washington is the Program Coordinator for the Detroit CARES Mentoring Movement. As an entrepreneur, she has over 15 years of experience/expertise in providing support to companies and other entrepreneurs with the planning; management and programming of projects. Ms. Washington set out to correct the imbalance between urban education and the social skills exhibited by our youth, by partnering with agencies and non-profits to provide impactful after school programing. The after-school programs which included both educational and social activities provided game changing experience to the youth.
Marcel Smith
Marcel Smith is a Detroit-based young professional and multi-faceted entrepreneur who serves as a program advisor for Detroit CARES. A native of Detroit, Marcel returned to the city in 2016 after completing his master’s in business at Houston Baptist University, where he played basketball and later held a position as Director of Basketball Operations for Men’s Basketball. Marcel’s speed on the court has led to success on the scoreboards but it is his intellectual swiftness, natural leadership ability and propensity for people that allows him to achieve in the other facets of his life and work. Marcel is the published author of The Balance: A Guide for Student-Athletes and demonstrates the importance of balancing all aspects of life in all that he does including managing The Family Basketball Organization, and mentoring youth through the Detroit Stars/Cares Program.
